Why I built it
I spend most of my day in notes, and the to-dos I care about get written down in the middle of them. Every tool I tried made me copy those tasks into a separate list, and the copy always drifted from the note it came from.
Notebook keeps the task where I wrote it. If it doesn’t get done, it shows up again tomorrow with a note of where it came from. If it isn’t for today, I give it a date and it stays out of the way until then.
How it’s built
- One record per task
- Tasks are their own records. A note stores a reference to the task, so checking it off anywhere updates every note it appears in.
- Carry-forward is a query
- Nothing gets copied overnight. Today simply asks for every open task whose date has arrived.
- Same app everywhere
- React on the web, installable on my phone, with the data layer in shared packages so a native iOS app can reuse it.
